SUBJECT: CALL FOR HELP TO FIGHT THEFT & VANDALISM OF TRANSFORMERS AT BOTH INDIVIDUAL HOUSEHOLD AND COMMUNITY LEVELS
Reference is made to the above subject. ZETDC is currently facing a huge and accelerated spate of transformer vandalism and copper conductor theft in and around urban residential areas, towns and farming communities in our region. The Utility has lost transmission and distribution assets worth several millions of dollars through the vice of theft and vandalism. This has the retrogressive impact to customers in the form several weeks of unplanned power blackouts to all customers, production stoppage among enterprises, and loss of revenue to the utility and business community, service delivery quality, poor corporate reputation, customer dissatisfaction among other negativities of electricity interruption.
This menace has resulted in a serious financial exposure where on one hand our revenue-generating infrastructure is being wantonly destroyed and on the other hand, the utility do not have the financial resources to replace the stolen equipment. The Utility is hereby requesting you and the members of your family to take collective ownership of electricity infrastructure and jealously safeguard it from theft and vandalism. Although ZETDC is employing every effort to fight this vice, ZETDC may be forced to request that clients replace all transformers that are vandalised in and around their premises.
ZETDC also calls upon you to be keeper and protector of your transformer at all times. You are urged to report any suspicion movement of individuals in and around your transformer. Please report such activities to your nearest ZETDC offices or ZRP Station and on the social media handles below.
